Just the Facts, Ma'am
Apr. 18th, 2006 08:48 pmA day of this and that.
Went to The Brick in the afternoon to act as recording engineer/producer of Martin Denton's new podcast for www.nytheatre.com. The pilot anyway -- this is a test run for a new weekly feature for the website. Some unfortunate double-booking at The Brick, so we wound up getting in 90 minutes after we expected, but it went quick and fine anyway. Will spend time the next few days on editing it all down and getting it to Martin. He wants it without any backing music this time, but I think I'll give him two versions, with and without. Use some Esquivel or other lounge music for most of it, then backing tracks from Caveman Robot for the interview with Jeff Lewonczyk and Jason Robert Bell about the show.
Took the recording equipment back home and turned around and went into Manhattan for a rehearsal for a voice-over gig I have tomorrow. Good money, easy job. My director in this was impressed by the speed at which I got the tone of the script, but it's pretty easy, as he said in giving me the tone, "Ken Burns documentary." I can do that in my sleep. I very likely have. Gary Owens Radio School for Big-Voiced Men-style, without any parodic elements. A good start to what I'm hoping will be a lucrative career in voiceovers, if I market myself right. Time to finally get the push together for that.
Spent time on the subway going over Havel's Temptation again and again, thinking about casting possibilities for my October production. Decided to make up a list of all the actors I like working with and want to keep working with again and again. Currently at 22 men and 20 women, but I have to go through my address book to make sure I'm not missing anyone. Then I'll winnow it down to the ones that feel right for this show, and ask them all to read. Normally, I wouldn't read my regular actors for parts, but with this show, each part could go in so many different ways that I'm going to want to hear many takes on each character, and also read sections with different ensembles. Plenty of time to put it together.
Didn't really do a lot, I guess, just spent a lot of time moving around and preparing to do it. This, that, and now, the other thing.
