I'm mostly surprised because I had a speech teacher who insisted the "General American Stage Accent" was based on the way people in Connecticut talked "because it's not really an accent, it's just very bland." Speaking from experience, "bland" suits the whole damn state, so I was darkly amused.
So I've just been used to thinking I have a non-accent of sorts.
