No kidding. I've been dealing in theatrical sampling since 1992 -- most often it gets called "collage," but really the technique as I think of it is something closer to sampling.
I now call my plays in this form "compilation-texts," primarily because a very high-powered intellectual property lawyer advised me to call the plays I do (which are often made up of quotes from over a hundred copywritten works) as "compilations," rather than try to claim "fair use" or something.
