Paul turned in terrific work in Empire Falls, where novelist Richard Russo adapted his novel for the HBO screenplay each day. He and Joanne moved into a cabin on location to put commuting time into rehearsals instead. His scenes with Ed Harris, father to Ed's son, are brilliant and will last, as much of his other acting, for a long time.
The Verdict is another triumph, his character Paul Galvin, a burnt-out alcoholic lawyer, coming from a David Mamet screenplay.
