Day of errands with the biggest at the end. Get milk. Get newspapers. Make breakfast. Take car to the shop for the hose/belt work. Get a new belt for myself, for that matter. Get some more cat litter. Drop Netflix off at Post Office. Go to The Brick and act in a show.
Yup, tonight we actually open THE ADVENTURES OF CAVEMAN ROBOT - THE MUSICAL after Saturday's scheduled opening became a kind of open final dress/tech for friends and people who showed up who couldn't see it any other time. We gave a more than acceptable opening night show. Have to go over my cuts again for tonight though -- they were really screwing me up in Tuesday's brush-up rehearsal. Another job for today.
Aforementioned Netflix: David Cronenberg's A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE and the recently-deceased Richard Fleischer's SEE NO EVIL. Didn't see VIOLENCE in the theatres, despite being one of the world's biggest Cronenberg fans, because it really didn't interest me. Despite some good moments, it still didn't when I saw it. Surprisingly simplistic and punch-pulling. Clint Eastwood's UNFORGIVEN covered much of the same thematic ground with more depth. SEE NO EVIL is a gimmicky little 1971 thriller elevated in parts by some excellent camera movement and composition, but not much else. One or two original and very creepy scenes, but no real momentum or payoff.
Nothing particular to learn much from those films.
My own June show not a concern today, except that I just lost an actor to schedule conflicts. I hadn't conceived much for this show, but I'd balanced the actors/characters out in a certain way and this screws it up. I'm not planning to replace him -- I don't have anyone to replace him with -- so I'll have to rethink the character positions.
